The Tapestry Group was created in 2008 by a small group of Early
Care and Education professionals dedicated to providing training
for seasoned providers in the field. The group has chosen to
accomplish this goal by creating or sponsoring workshops and
seminars presented by nationally known speakers on the latest best
practices in Early Care and Education. These trainings are
designed to combine the presentation of new and cutting edge
information with time to reflect with colleagues on how to best utilize
this information in one's own setting.
The first group of seminars provided by the Tapestry Group
focused on the newly revised position statement on
Developmentally Appropriate Practices from NAEYC with content
suggested by contributing factors such as brain development,
diversity and state learning standards. Featured speakers were Dr.
Carolyn Edwards of the University of Nebraska, Julie Olsen
Edwards from Cabrillo College in California, Jeannette French from
Dr. Becky Bailey's Loving Guidance, Inc., and Gaye Gronlund,
author of Making State Learning Standards Come Alive and other
titles on ECE as well as chief editor of training information on the
latest version of NAEYC's Developmentally Appropriate Practices
Position Statement and Guide.
Continuing its emphasis on the
implementation of Developmentally
Appropriate practices the Tapestry
Group created a second set of
entitled "Supporting the Wonder of
Childhood through DAP". Like the
first series, nationally known
speakers provided participants
with the latest information and research on creating
natural outdoor playgrounds as well as in the areas of science,
math and creative expression, all of which are beginning to be
recognized as having a need for more emphasis in ECE programs to
fully prepare children to meet the challenges as they enter school.
